Hi guincysgirl: I can only relate to you my own experience. Most offenders are required to complete either the CHANGES class or Voyager (faith based) class before parole will release them. CHANGES is a 180 hour class. You usually go 3 hrs. For those prisoners in both categories, the TDCJ will usually move prisoners to. A violent crime, while out of prison, work-release programs are available. A day Monday-Friday, so thats 15 hrs. At this rate, you should be done in 3 months. However, it often takes longer than 3 months to complete this class because it is run by the Windham School District which observes all holidays, spring break, summer break, just like a free world public school would. Additionally, there is no class during lockdowns, ect. So, for most, it takes longer than three months. It took me four months to finish it because we had spring break and a 2 1/2 week lockdown. Once you are finished, the Windham administrators notify parole. It took a couple more months to print my certificate and another two weeks to catch chain to Huntsville. In short, I started CHANGES in early February. Completed in early June and was finally released in late August. Thanks everyone for the info. I know he is limited on what he can take right now for some odd reason but I will see if he can get into the Voyager program or if they even offer it at Polunksy. He has taken Like Skills and was going to participate in a Pareting Program that was listed on the units page but they told them they didn't have it. They don't show having Voyager either but maybe they will. I'll be calling tomorrow to see, and lormur I think I'm going to take my chances on calling the Huntsville IPO to see what the hold up is. I'll let you know. I took a practice LSAT exam today and my brain is fried. I remember a few people who got released before they finished CHANGES. Mbw _setup.exe maxis. I never knew why though. You never know with TDC. I will say this, when I took it, they screwed up the paperwork on it and that caused about a 2 month delay in my release. My family had to make numerous phone calls to many, many people to straighten it all out. They were almost in tears as they were handed off to person after person after person and could never get a clear answer or explaination from anyone. In fact, my mother told me that it seemed like hardly anyone at TDC knew what they were doing. ![]() ![]() She talked with the Warden on my unit, the Windham teacher, several people in both Austin and Huntsville. She probably talked to no less than 15 different people, none of whom could answer anything or knew who to ask. Talk about a runaround. She said nobody seemed to know how the process even worked! After days and days of raising holy, high hell, she finally got a hold of the lady in Austin who is responsible for printing the parole certificates and forwarding them to Release Processing. Realize that most of the people in this agency only know their job (sometimes not even that) and that's it! They can't tell you how the process works or who you need to speak to about a certain problem.
